For the last 15 years, I have worked closely with an organization called "ourblackancestry.com." I do this work because I discovered that my mother's family owned the most slaves in US history. They owned 42 plantations and over 10,000 slaves. They rarely sold their slaves, actually married them, and had them live in family units. It was not unusual for the slave families to have 14 to 18 children; the family kept track of all the marriages and deaths, and births. These records today could provide ancestry for about 4 million people. I sincerely hope these records will be available online to be searchable for ancestry purposes.
I have had the privilege and honor of working in the field of diversity training and trauma healing. My desire is to take these principles and help communities learn how to heal. The book the 9Epiphanies can be a great start to changing local communities and how they think about race and how they can come together and heal.
